Did you know the higher the MERV rating the better filtration it provides?

The MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating for residential systems generally ranges from 1 to 12.

MERV 1-4 filters are flat and made of fiberglass. Filters with a MERV rating of 1-4 are the lowest quality. These filters need to be replaced more often.
MERV 5-8 filters are typically pleated, with the folded material providing more area for trapping more particles. They are able to trap between 20-70% of the particles in your home that are as small as 3 microns (for instance, mold spores and particulate matter from dusting aids and hair spray).
MERV 9-12 filters are the highest quality of filters available for residential HAVC units. These filters trap particles as small as 1 micron. If anyone in your home suffers from respiratory illnesses or a suppressed immune system, MERV 12 supplies the cleanest indoor air.
